My Vday Recap

I hope everybody's Valentine's Day went well. I spent mine with my bf a day in advance. Do you remember last year was a disaster when his car got stolen on Vday so we had to cancel our couple's massage appointment? We didn't really have anything special planned this year. We just went shopping @ Nordies and I got him a pair of Rock & Republic Jeans and a Studded Shirt as gifts, got my hair done, and had All You Can Eat meat at our fave Korean BBQ joint in LA. What he got me...

1) Red Roses and ) Magic Straight Perm aka Japanese Hair Straightening/Thermal Reconstruction/Hair Rebonding You might be thinking Magic Straight what??? Magic Straight Perm is a hairstyle treatment originated from Japan which uses heat to restructure the bonds in your hair to create a permanent straight hairstyle that will last from 6-8 months. Below is the sample process which usually lasts 3-4 hours depending on the length and texture of your hair:

I was contemplating on getting it done because I'm scared of damaging my hair and losing all the volume but this salon in Koreatown that I went to gave me a really great deal. Jinah Chae's video also encouraged me to finally do it.

Here's my before and after photo: The hair color is the same just no flash on the before pic. My natural hair is very thin and wavy. To be honest, I wasn't extremely happy with the results. Maybe I get what I paid for? I'm not sure if going to a more expensive salon will yield to better results. I lost a lot of volume on my hair especially on my bangs. I loved my full bangs before ;( The only thing that I liked about it is that I don't have to blow dry and/or flat iron my hair everyday. Just wash and air dry and I still get the "just flat ironed hair" look. Thus, less time consuming and damage to your hair. I can still curl my hair and it will hold but it's best to wait for maybe few more weeks before doing so. RANDOM Here's an old school photo of my childhood playmate and me. I'm on the right ;) THEN I saw her over the weekend after so many years and we tried to re-create the photo by sitting on one chair... NOW How cool that we have almost the same hairstyle and nail polish color! Till my next post! Ciao for now! ***

New Fringe + Random Photos

No more side bangs. I finally caved in and chopped off 4 inches of my hair to get full bangs again. I love it!
Hopefully it grows back just in time for my friend's wedding. We had our trial hair and makeup 2 weeks ago and the hairstyle we agreed on looks so much better with side bangs. My friend didn't hire a wedding planner but since she's very detail-oriented, she's handling the preparations extremely well. Last Saturday, we finished shopping for the sponsors' gifts and selected the groom/groomsmen's attire. I'm also hosting a bridal shower for her. We already booked the restaurant but I still need to send out the invitations and finalize the games. I'm dreading the upcoming events i.e. wedding party shower and the rehearsal dinner. It's going to be craaazeee! When it's my turn to get married, I want it to be really simple and small. Last weekend, we went to my other friend's bday bash @ Heat Ultra Lounge in Orange County. I had a blast! It's been a long time since I have gone clubbing. Below are some pics... with the bday girl Ms. K me looking @ another cam hehe! bf checking out the go go dancer me blowing a kiss! Ciao for now! ***

Shills Dust it Magic Hair Fully Powder VS. OSiS+ Dust it Mattifying Powder

Shills Dust it Magic Hair Fully Powder $28.00 + Free Shipping Ebay Seller: beautyshop2008 30 ml/1.0 oz.of. Made in Taiwan
Instruction is on the box:
Do not pour directly on scalp!!! Good thing I read this first. I guess you can pour directly on roots but i prefer to sprinkle it on my hand first to control the amount of product. Here's what the white powder looks like...looks like 'coke' lol! PROS:
  • gives your hair volume in no time w/o teasing or blow drying
  • a little product goes a long way
  • seems to control oil
CONS:
  • pricey
  • hard to find, product shipped from Taiwan
  • ingredients listed in Taiwanese (translator please!)
  • makes your hair a little sticky
*** Schwarzkopf OSiS+ Dust it Mattifying Powder From $8.95 + Free Shipping The ebay seller i got it from doesn't have it anymore. Check from other sellers. 0.35 oz/10g Made in Germany Ingredients: Water, Silica Silylate, Sodium Benzoate, Octylacrylamide/Acrylates/Butylaminoethyl Methacrylate Copolymer, Citric Acid PROS:
  • cheaper compared to Shills Dust it
  • does the same job in giving hair a boost
  • easier to find online (US seller available)
CONS:
  • stickier than Shills Dust it
  • might be hard to remove if you put too much product (need a good shampooing)
VERDICT: Just get OSiS+ since it's cheaper. Both products give the same hair volumizing effect anyway. BEFORE AND AFTER PICS...
I'm sure you can make ur hair more poofy than this. Just add more product. ***

Ebay Haul (Asian Beauty Items)

I just purchased these items from ebay. I can't wait to get and review them! 1) Fringe Styling Clip For perfect side swept look for those stubborn bangs like mine. 2) Cele-Up Hair Inserts For princess style hair. Asian version of Bumpits (which i already have). From the photo, the difference is that it's wider and has longer gripping teeth compared to Bumpits. 3. Shills Dust-it Magic Hair Powder For volumizing fine limp hair like mine. I read good reviews about this. We'll see. 4) Schwarzkopf OSiS Dust-it Mattyfying Powder Another hair volumizing powder that's cheaper than Shills Dust-it Powder. This is easier to find online than Shills. I got both to compare which is better. Check out demo video below: 5) Nail Polish Protector To protect freshly painted nails. I wanna give props to fellow beauty blogger SUMMER for inspiring me to get items #3 and 5. ***

New Do + New Circle Lenses

Because of the summer heat, i decided to chop off my long hair. I opted for medium length layered hair with more volume in the back. Now i look like my poupeegirl hehe!
MY JAN DI POSE & MY NEW DO Thanks to Fuz! I'm having so much fun playing with Xiuxiu. It's a very user-friendly photo/video editing tool eventhough it's in Chinese. Perfect for taking kawaii pics! Got my new circle lenses from MesmerizedEyes ... $20/pair + free shipping Few months ago, Katie of MesmerizedEyes contacted me and offered a couple of geo circle lenses to try...
TGIF! Hope to do my OCC Lip Tars swatches soon ;) Have a great weekend! ***

The auto shut-off is a plus since I have a habit of leaving my flat iron on after use and forgetting about it. Can't do a full review yet bcoz I'm still trying to get the hang of it since I'm used to curling my hair with a Chi flat iron. ***
